If there’s something almost as certain as death and taxes, it’s that your fridge will break down soon after the warranty period finishes. When the inevitable happens, if you live in Adelaide, what are you going do:
- Contact your retailer or the manufacturer trying to convince them it should be a warranty job?
- Resign the fridge to the tip and buy a new one (which might also break down as soon as the warranty period is over!)?
- Find a reliable fridge repair person to get your fridge fixed?
Fridge repairs are the way to go
The truth is that options one and two are generally not the way to go.
Option one will usually simply be a waste of time. Warranty periods and conditions are stipulated for a reason and no manufacturer is going to accept a warranty job once these periods have passed. However, it may be a good idea to check because what you presumed is a 1-year warranty may actually be a 2-year warranty. If you’ve kept your warranty card this is the easiest place to check. Otherwise, go to the manufacturer’s website or contact the manufacturer or retailer.
Option two is likely to be a waste of your investment and a waste of resources. Most newer fridges with issues can and should be repaired. And once they are, they’ll likely give years and years of hassle-free service.
So, option three is generally the way to go. Getting your fridge repaired simply makes good sense. Here are a few reasons why:
The age of a fridge is a key determining factor in whether it is worth repairing. So, if your unit is a little over one year old, or only a few years old, there’s a good chance that fridge repairs will be worth the investment. It’s only if your fridge has reached between six and 13 years old that it might not be worth getting fixed.
This lifespan estimate depends somewhat on quality – better quality fridges will generally last longer than cheaper models, which makes sense. So, if your fridge is a good quality model, it’s even more likely that fridge repairs make sense.
What did it cost to buy?
How much did your fridge cost? $1000? $1500? $5000? Fridge repairs in Adelaide might only cost you a few hundred dollars and in some cases little more than one hundred dollars. So it makes perfect sense to spend a few dollars to get your fridge repaired so you can make the most of your initial investment.
Think of the Environment
Repairing your fridge – and not sending it to landfill – is a bonus for the environment. You’ll be doing your bit to save the planet!
